Sports Vision Training for Football
Every snap is a visual puzzle, and coaches notice the players who solve it fastest. Sports vision training helps middle and high school players read plays sooner, react quicker off the snap and play with more confidence.
Why it matters
Why vision matters when you're trying to make the team
Passing a school eye screening only means your child can read a still chart. Football is played in motion, under pressure, and coaches at tryouts notice the athletes who see the play first. Visual skills are still developing in the middle and high school years, which makes this a great time to train them.
Read the play sooner
Recognize formations and open lanes faster, a big part of what coaches call football IQ.
Quicker off the snap
Faster visual reactions show up in drills, on film and on the depth chart.
Better ball skills
Track the ball cleanly through traffic and over the shoulder.
Core visual skills
The visual skills football demands
A routine eye exam rarely measures these. Our sports vision testing does.
Peripheral vision
Seeing blitzes, open receivers and pursuit angles without turning the head.
Multiple object tracking
Following several moving players at once.
Reaction time
Firing off the snap and reacting to breaks and cuts.
Depth perception
Judging throwing distances, tackle angles and ball flight.
Dynamic visual acuity
Seeing clearly while sprinting, cutting and getting hit.
Visual memory
Recognizing formations and opponent tendencies quickly.
Know your role
Visual demands by position
Quarterbacks
Read the defense, track receivers and feel the rush, all in a few seconds.
Receivers
Track the ball over the shoulder and through contact.
Running backs
Spot running lanes as they open and close.
Linemen
React to the snap, hands and footwork just inches away.
Linebackers
Read keys fast and react to play action and misdirection.
Defensive backs
Track the receiver and the ball at the same time.

Questions
Football vision training FAQ
Does vision matter for linemen?
Yes. Linemen react to the snap, hand placement and leg movement from inches away. Reaction time and peripheral awareness matter in the trenches as much as anywhere on the field.
Will this help my child make the team?
No program can promise a roster spot. What training can do is build the visual skills coaches look for at tryouts: reading the play early, reacting quickly and staying focused under pressure. Many athletes also feel more confident when the ball is simply easier to see.
What ages do you work with?
Our sports vision program is built for middle and high school athletes, from players trying out for their first school team to varsity players fighting for more playing time. Every program fits the athlete's sport, position and season.
How do we get started?
Start with the free Sports Symptom Checklist, then request an evaluation. Every athlete begins with a Binocular Vision Evaluation with Dr. Toler ($295), followed by a consultation to review the findings. It shows how the eyes are aligning, teaming, focusing and tracking, so training is built on real results instead of guesses.
Can vision affect schoolwork too?
Often, yes. The same eye teaming, focusing and tracking skills that matter on the field also matter for reading and homework. The evaluation looks at both, and Dr. Toler will tell you if anything affecting the classroom shows up.
Does sports vision training replace a regular eye exam?
No. Training works alongside routine eye care. Athletes should keep up with their annual comprehensive eye exam for eye health and prescription updates.
Can we use FES-UA scholarship funds?
Yes. Performance Vision Training is eligible for Florida Empowerment Scholarship (FES-UA) funds. Our program is designed to train the visual skills used in reading, like eye teaming, focusing and tracking, to help our student athletes stay academically eligible to play. Our team is happy to answer questions about using your benefits.
