What is a Binocular Vision Evaluation?
Binocular Vision Evaluation for Children in Orlando
Looking Beyond 20/20 Vision
If your child has 20/20 eyesight but struggles with reading, headaches, attention, or eye alignment, the problem may not be how clearly they see—it may be how their eyes work together.
At Hope Vision Development Center, we provide comprehensive Binocular Vision Evaluations for children and adults throughout Orlando and Central Florida to determine whether problems with eye alignment, eye teaming, eye tracking, or focusing are affecting daily performance.
What is a Binocular Vision Evaluation?
A Binocular Vision Evaluation (BVE) is a specialized 90-minute examination that evaluates how the eyes and brain work together during tasks like reading, learning, and computer work.
Unlike a routine eye exam, which measures eyesight, a BVE evaluates visual function.
We assess:
Eye Alignment
Eye Teaming (Binocular Vision)
Eye Tracking
Focusing Ability
Visual Processing
Computerized Eye Tracking during Reading
Many visual problems only become apparent during sustained near work, which is why we often describe this evaluation as a "visual stress test."
Common Signs Your Child May Benefit from an Evaluation
Losing place while reading
Skipping or re-reading lines
Headaches or eye strain
Blurred or double vision
Difficulty concentrating while reading
Eyes that drift or appear misaligned
Avoiding reading or homework
Reduced reading comprehension despite normal intelligence
What Happens After the Evaluation?
Before you leave, your doctor will:
Review the findings in detail
Explain how vision may be affecting performance
Answer your questions
For academic concerns, a Visual Processing Assessment may be reccomended
Discuss personalized recommendations
Determine whether Vision Therapy or other treatment is appropriate
Our goal is to provide answers—not just a diagnosis.

A current eye exam helps us verify that your child's eye health and prescription have already been evaluated, allowing us to focus on binocular vision, eye alignment, eye tracking, and other functional visual skills during your evaluation.
If your child has not had a comprehensive eye examination within the past year, we recommend scheduling one with your primary eye care provider before your Binocular Vision Evaluation.
If you need a referral to an eye care provider in your area, we are happy to help.
