Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Your bright child excels at everything except school.
  • You feel there's a gap between potential and performance.
  • Your child gets visually tired when they read.
  • 20 minutes of homework takes hours and becomes a battle.

If so, there could be a vision problem.

Why "20/20" isn't the whole story

Vision is much more than reading an eye chart.

20/20 only means your child can read small letters on a chart 20 feet away. School asks much more of their eyes: aiming them together, focusing up close, and moving smoothly across a page, for an entire school day.

A child can pass a vision screening, or already wear glasses, and still have an undetected visual skills problem.

Why it goes unnoticed

Most children think everyone sees the same way they do.

So they don't know to complain. Instead, they rush, guess, lose their place, or avoid reading altogether, and it's mistaken for a lack of effort or attention.

Our free online symptom checklist takes about two minutes and helps you see whether a vision problem could be part of the picture.

Animation of what reading can feel like: 'I see double when I read. The words blur in and out on the page when I read. I really am trying to read, it's just my eyes are tired.'

We help Windermere students whose vision gets in the way of school and sports.

Common questions

My child passed a vision screening. Why would they need this?

Screenings check how clearly your child sees at a distance. They don't test how the eyes team, track, and focus together during sustained reading, which is where most learning-related vision problems show up.

My child already wears glasses. Isn't that enough?

Glasses make things clearer, but they don't train eye teaming, focusing, or tracking. A child can see clearly with glasses and still have a visual skills problem that makes reading hard work.

Can I use my FES-UA scholarship?

Yes. We're an approved provider for the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities through Step Up For Students. Let us know when you request your evaluation.

How long does vision therapy take?

Therapy runs in units of 11 weekly sessions followed by a progress exam with the doctor. Most patients complete two units or 22 sessions over six months. Your plan is based on your evaluation findings.

Do you take insurance?

We're fee-for-service and don't participate with medical or vision plans. Payment is due at the time of service.
